Something Like a Love Poem

I believe Love poems are supposed to be felt
Like the words should jump off the page
And create a new beat in your heart
Make you fall head over heels
And tumble down a hill
Or something like that
Smitten by the first line
Infatuated by the last stanza
Rubbing your belly because of the butterflies
While reading about the twinkle in your eyes
And holding back the tears
As you get all the feels
They’re a representation of what we feel
Or what wish we could feel
Every word coming from the heart
Being led by the mind
And felt by the soul
Reused lines like “Together we could grow old”
Followed by the waking up to your smile
And staring into your eyes that burn with passion
With hopes that this thing will last
Mixed with wonders of us moving too fast but
When I try to write a love poem
To express how I feel about you
I end up with incomplete lines
And blank pages
I could try to write a book about it
But that still wouldn’t be enough
I could write about how you’re always on my mind
But that’s the problem
You’re always on my mind
The story would remain unfinished
Because I never stop thinking about you
So, I’m not going to write a love poem
I’m going to write a poem about
What a love poem could be about
To show you how
My feelings towards you
Are deeper than any love poem could convey
Bringing out the clichés that I refuse to use
And realizing that no words could express the way I feel about you
Because I believe that a love poem from me to you
Should captivate your mind
Add that new beat to your heart
And be felt…by your soul.
